Focusing on You

01 — Try a Trade

Try a Trade 2 day expo offers hands on sample experience. Meet young ladies already performing the tasks and hear about their experiences and ways to ensure it is for you.

2024 promises the largest selection to date with industry wide representation and we expect over 35 + career options to be on show. A smorgasbord of jobs and employers of choice.

Already we have the construction industry with the numerous roles offered, some 15% of women already employed in everything from Bricklaying to Electrical Contracting. Students will also get to try Augmented Reality Welding.

Emergency services, Defence Force, Parks and Wildlife, and Horticulture roles abound and have proven popular across the previous years. Come and check out the Bushmaster PMV from the Defence Force.

02 — Try a career or Profession.

Meet successful women already operating at high levels in Accounting, Law and the many business intelligence services that companies like Findex will be promoting.

The Masterclass Kitchen series again features 5 Kitchens at this stage and a very special addition of indigenous produce gaining huge popularity on TV and tables Australia wide and taking it to the world. 5 of Australia and the World’s leading chefs show groups of 10 from year 11 & 12 students how to plan, prepare and present a gourmet Tasmanian Ingredients meal.

We also have a separate Pastry Chef Masterclass, Hospitality Masterclass with front of house training and a Barista Course.

Dr Bianca Capra will likely again be bringing her Aeronautical Engineering experience for the event and plans are underway to expand the selection of what is presented to a larger group of female students.

03 — White Ribbon - You Can Ask That

This year White Ribbon are partnering with the Fearless Festival to deliver a Young Men’s program titled: You Can Ask That.

You Can Ask That is a learning initiative for young people. It provides knowledge, tools and strategies to foster respectful relationships, promote gender equality and prevent harassment and abuse.

A panel of primary prevention experts hosted by White Ribbon Australia will lead a fire-side conversation answering four topics relating to the drivers of violence, abuse and disrespect.

You Can Ask That is a 60 minute panel-style conversation for young people to learn about the issue of domestic violence and how to prevent it.

“This has become even more critical given the strength of the construction pipeline and the need for skilled workers with women continuing to be under-represented.”
